Museums and the Restitution Debate
The Parthenon sculptures in London, the Benin Bronzes scattered from Berlin to Oxford, and Nefertiti in Berlin all sit at the center of active restitution debates. Greece has asked for the marbles since 1983.
Germany began returning Benin Bronzes to Nigeria in 2022. Digital repatriation, shared stewardship, and long term loans are newer models.
