Vatican Museums
Overview
Founded when Julius II bought the Laocoon in 1506, the papal collections fill miles of corridors. The Sistine Chapel ceiling and Last Judgment by Michelangelo, the Raphael Rooms, the Belvedere Torso, and the spiral Bramante staircase draw some six million visitors a year to a treasury spanning antiquity to the modern age.
