Exploratorium
Overview
Founded by physicist Frank Oppenheimer in 1969 inside the Palace of Fine Arts, the Exploratorium pioneered the hands-on science museum, where visitors learn by touching, building and experimenting. Many exhibits are designed and built in its own workshop and have been copied by science centers worldwide. Since 2013 it has occupied Pier 15 on the Embarcadero.
