United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Overview
America's national memorial to the Holocaust opened beside the National Mall in 1993. Visitors receive an identification card telling the story of a real person caught up in the genocide. The permanent exhibition includes a German railcar of the type used for deportations and a room filled with shoes from Majdanek. It also houses major research archives and works on genocide prevention.
